If you haven heard of the retail industry current troubles then you must be living under a rock. In the wake of the Global Financial Crisis, the strong Aussie dollar and online shopping, where you can buy anything imaginable from any part of the world, have led to fewer people spending money in traditional retail settings. My own shopping habits have also changed dramatically since I had kids. Just the thought of taking a 3-year-old and a 10-month-old baby grocery shopping makes me break into a cold sweat, so who knows what possessed me to take them bridesmaid dress shopping!
On my very first shopping attempt my first bridesmaid dress fear was realised not one emerald green dress existed in all of Melbourne CBD. Luckily Jill was on that shopping Cocktailjurken 2012 expedition with me and made an executive Bride decision, changing the colour to champagne/nude, as there seemed to be plenty of creamy/nude dresses at the moment and we thought it would look more cohesive nude dresses as opposed to emerald green.
I was able to try on a few dresses, one made me look like an overstuffed sausage, another came with a serve of attitude from the retail assistant. do YOU need a dress for? she demanded glaring at my baby girl strapped in her Baby Bjorn. Gosh! I know I haven been out shopping for a while, but I didn realise you needed to sit an interview before spending a few hundred dollars on a dress these days!!
Jill and I gave up. I still have some baby weight to lose before I settle on a dress anyway, so we spent the rest of the shopping expedition drinking champagne. They didn ask us any questions!!

I then attempted a quick trip to DFO Essendon. I say as all shopping trips with children have to be quick; the attention span of Sexy Trouwjurken a three year old boy in a clothes shop is about two and half minutes. Which, surprisingly, is just enough time to do a colour scan of a store and pick and try on two dresses.
The kids were doing quite well and I managed to try on four suitable dresses when disaster struck. I was doing my best superman quick change into a couple of gorgeous Thurley dresses. Sebastian, my three year old was securely supervised in the change room with me, and baby Evie was in the pram just outside the door. Then, quick as a flash, Sebastian shimmied under the change room door, grabbed Evie in her pram and was off! There I was, in my underwear, stuck in the change room! I quickly pulled on a sparkly gown, sprinted barefoot across the store and caught Sebastian just as he was wheeling Evie out into the shopping centre! really need Vintage Trouwjurk to watch them, reprimanded this Retail Assistant. And that was the end of that shopping trip!
